The Halloween party at Magic Kingdom, better known as, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, has so much activity packed into one 5-hour night. A Halloween party plan should be taken seriously if you hope to experience a good breadth of what the party has to offer.
Events throughout the Halloween Party
There are so many events throughout the night including stage shows, which are short theatrical performances, to pop-up ghostly acapella singers. To successfully achieve all the long list of party exclusives, a Halloween party plan would be the best option. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Plan with Timeline
To give you an idea of how our Halloween party plan played out the following photos offer an outline along with descriptions and times below each. Keep in mind this was in early October 2016. WEATHER HINT: The sun was out when we arrived at the party at 4:00 pm and clothing wise I was fine as were my husband and children. I did opt to add tights underneath my dress around 7:00 pm when the breeze picked up a bit.
03:30 pm: Start Walk to Magic Kingdom
If you ever stay at a Monorail resort, a Magic Kingdom party night is the best time to splurge. If staying at Bay Lake Tower or Contemporary Resort the walk to and from Magic Kingdom is less than 6 minutes as a casual walking pace. As of 2017, you will reach a security table along the path before reaching Magic Kingdom. This is a very smooth security check with no line or waiting.
03:50 pm: Party Bands Just Inside Turnstile
Just beyond the Magic Kingdom turnstile (where you tap your magic band or park ticket), there are cast members with party bands. There were also treat bags with starter candy inside! However, you had to walk a little further down near Guest Services windows. I wasn’t aware of the treat bags at the moment of receiving the bands. My focus was getting in line for Jack & Sally.
03:52 pm: Walked Ahead of Husband and Kids to Get in Line for Jack & Sally
Took back way party entrance! This is the private/secret walkway that opens during special times of years or during special events. During normal hours, this path is hidden by big green doors. It’s the area in between Tony’s Town Square Restaurant and The Chapeau hat shop. (where the old Fast Pass paper machines use to be!) Super friendly Cast Members waiting with pre-filled treat bags. They were not here during the Thursday night party. This area was opened on Friday night.
04:03 pm: Lined up for Jack & Sally
Cast members made two or three sweeps of the line to make sure guests were wearing magic bands. One guest who was 2nd in line did not have a band on and they asked her to get out of line. She said her family was going to get bands later on but they said she needed a band to see Jack and Sally so she left. This is the line at 4pm for Jack & Sally at Thursday night’s party.
04:06 pm: Cast Members Began Setting the Meet and Greet Stage
05:00 pm: Jack and Sally Arrived
They play the soundtrack to Nightmare Before Christmas when Jack & Sally come out. The music continues in the background during the meet and greet.
05:08 pm: Met Jack and Sally
Jack and Sally were so wonderful with the kids! We couldn’t get enough of them. We got in line early on Friday night to meet them again. Both nights they were so fun. The kids couldn’t get enough of them. The kids made Jack & Sally handmade snowflakes. You can hear Alexis ask Jack, “What’s this Jack?” Her five-year-old humor astounds me.
05:20 pm: Went to Adventureland for a Dole Whip
05:30 pm: Picked up Starter Treat Bags at Tortuga Tavern
06:15 pm: Lined up for Pooh & Friends Meet and Greet
07:04 pm: Met Pooh & Friends
Last year when we met Pooh and Friends they didn’t come out until 7:14pm and without Eeyore 🙁 So by 7:04 I was panicked when they hadn’t arrived yet. No sooner did I text a friend to freak out about the wait, here came Pooh & Friends around the bend.
07:15 pm: Arrived in Tomorrowland, All Treat Lines Were Really Long
Jim and Alexis rode Space Mountain while Maxwell and I stood in the treat line next to the ride.
07:46 pm: Found Curbside Viewing on Main Street for Boo to You Parade
We were surprised at how easy it was to find Main Street parade viewing but there were plenty of spots both on Thursday and Friday night.
08:17 pm: Headless Horseman Reached Us on Main Street
08:20 pm: Creepa Crew: Zootopia
08:50 pm: Boo to You Parade Reached Our Spot on Main Street
09:15 pm: Cadaver Dans in Frontierland
09:40 pm: Trick or Treat Line Liberty Square
09:47 pm: Haunted Mansion Photos Then Walked to Storybook Circus
We were going to ride Haunted Mansion but the kids didn’t want too but Maxwell was adamant about taking a picture with one of the spooky Cast Members directing the ride line.
10:00 pm: Trick or Treat Inside Pete’s Silly Sideshow & Played Games Inside the Tent
Pete’s Silly Sideshow was a great trick or treat location addition this year. Both sides had two barrels of candy. If you completed one side you go through the gift shop tent and do the other side. I’m sure you could keep going through here. My guess, a run through both sides of the tent three or four times and you could call it quits for the night with trick or treating. The best part, they had fun games for the kids inside like cornhole tosses or basketball type games.
10:30 pm: Magic Shot Along the Side of Circus Tent
We found this magic shot along the side of the circus tent. Next to Ariel’s Grotto behind Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train. Fireworks started while we were taking the picture. There was no one in line. 🙂
10:39 pm: Rode the Tomorrowland Speedway
We watched the fireworks while riding our race cars and the Cast Members allowed us to take two laps around the course. Maxwell was really happy that we didn’t have to go all the way around through the line again.
11:00 pm: Began Walk Back to Main Street
We wanted to take advantage of an empty Main Street in front of City Hall so we decided to stay for the 2nd parade. By the time the parade was complete the clock was a few minutes until midnight. Like Cinderella after the ball, we decided to leave the before midnight.
11:59 pm: Began Walk Back to Hotel
Before rushing off we stopped to take this photo next to an illumination just as we were leaving the party. It was a perfect way to say goodnight. (and don’t forget to get your last treat of the night from Cast Members handing out candy as you leave!
Halloween party plan conclusion
In the end, I am really happy we decided to attend two Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween parties. (and we have the candy to prove it!) Once we got home after four days we were still able to fill two 20 qt. containers with candy!
Consequently, I am happy we had a Halloween party plan in place. It helped to make last minute changes I would not have otherwise been able to do. What really helped to navigate successfully was understanding all the party ahead of time.
I think I’d like to do two parties again next year and make a long weekend out of it like we did this time. The kids were excited to attend both nights and we were able to make a fun Halloween weekend out of it. Attending two parties also allowed us to see and experience everything while still finding time to trick or treat.
Have you ever attended the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party? Did you use a Halloween party plan or did you just wing it? I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below!
