RunDisney Decision – The reasons I run
The RunDisney decision is not easy. It can, in fact, be very taxing. But that’s not a reason to give up. I am going to share with you the reasons I run and you can judge for yourself if a RunDisney race is in your future!
Reason #1 – Run Down Main Street
Are you a Disney enthusiast looking to try something new? The experience of a RunDisney race is wonderfully different from a typical day in the park. On a normal day at a Walt Disney World Theme Park, you are constantly being told not to run. During a Disney race, you get to run in one to all four Walt Disney World theme parks!
Half and Full Marathon runners get to run through Cinderella’s Castle and directly down Main Street U.S.A.!
Reason #2 – Unique Characters
Do you love opportunities to meet unique characters? Then your RunDisney decision get’s easier. Each race has a few staple characters that they have every year. For example, the Donald Half-Marathon will have Donald sending you off from the starting line. However, each race has many unique characters at various spots along the race course and at the finish line. The fun is experiencing hidden characters only seen during the race. Runners usually do not know in advance.
Reason #3 – Meet fellow Disney fans
Do you like to have fun with fellow Disney fans? I have been running races for the past five years. I typically do 4-5 races a year. RunDisney races are by far the most fun. Besides the fact that you are running through the “Most Magical Place on Earth”, I feel like the other runners and walkers are what make it extra special. Participants in RunDisney races are one of a kind.
RunDisney races are also the one place where I see racers put more thought into their race costume than their training. (Completely acceptable in my book!) One of my favorite things about RunDisney is seeing the character costumes participants come up with. They are amazing!
Novice Runner Tip: During races, even when a participant might feel like they’re dying, they are still extremely happy and excited to be there! A great reason to make your RunDisney decision easier.
Reason #4 – Lots of Shiny Objects
Do you like bling? Like everything Disney, RunDisney race medals are top notch. My Donald Half-Marathon medal is shiny gold with Donald’s face front and center. It’s easily the brightest of all my medals. For most participants, the medal unveiling is a huge part of the excitement leading up to the race. Medals are typically unveiled a month before the race. Almost all of the RunDisney race weekends offer special challenges where you can earn an extra medal for completing the specific challenge.
Reason #5 – Running is not required
Can you put one foot in front of the other? You do not have to be a runner to participate in RunDisney races. A lot of people who sign up for RunDisney races have never run before, and that is okay.
Each Race weekend offers a 5k (3.10 miles), 10k (6.2 miles), and half-marathon (13.10 miles). The full marathon (26.2 miles) is offered in January during Disney’s Marathon Weekend. Disney also offers kid races at the Expo and I’m proud to say my kids and husband will be running with me in the 5K in 2018!
The various distances allow you to choose a race that works for you. Each race, no matter the distance, is just as magical.
So back to the question, should you run a Disney race? If you answered yes to even one of these questions, I truly believe that you should sign up for a RunDisney race. It will be a race that you will dream about before and after the actual run.
RunDisney Tip: Each RunDisney race weekend is built around a different theme, from TinkerBell to Princesses, from Wine and Dine to Star Wars. There is a race for everyone!
